KC Roos men’s basketball heads to holiday break after falling to East Tennessee State

In their first ever meeting with East Tennessee State, the Kansas City Roos couldn’t close the gap on the Buccaneers, falling 70-57 in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Wednesday.

The 7-4 Buccaneers had full control of the game. ETSU only trailed for a total of 36 seconds, all within the first five minutes. From there, ETSU maintained a comfortable lead and never allowed the Roos to come any closer than seven points in the second half.

Turnovers proved costly for the Roos, as ETSU managed 25 points off 18 KC turnovers. ETSU only committed six turnovers for the game. The Buccaneers also went to the charity stripe for 26 attempts, making 20 free throws.

KC’s bench was a valuable asset, producing 20 of KC’s 57 points — led by sophomore guard Tyler Andrews’ eight. Junior guards Jamar Brown and Cameron Faas led the team with 12 points apiece, with Faas adding a team-best eight rebounds.

Graduate guard Ebby Asamoah led the Buccaneers’ efforts with 24 points (8-of-14 shooting), matching his season high. Two other ETSU starters reached double digits in scoring, and sophomore forward Karon Boyd led the game with 10 rebounds.

KC now moves to 5-8 on the season, dropping its second consecutive game.

Next up, the Roos are back at Swinney Center for their first Summit League matchup of the season against Oral Roberts on Dec. 29. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
