BATTLE CREEK — Kellogg Community College and Grand Valley State University on Friday signed an institutional articulation agreement that will provide smoother transitions for KCC students who want to continue their education at GVSU.

Leaders from KCC and GVSU signed the agreement during a public ceremony Friday inside KCC’s Binda Performing Arts Center. The agreement between the institutions allows seamless transfer along several academic pathways at KCC leading to various GVSU degree programs.

Students must meet all standard admission, curriculum and graduation requirements of KCC and GVSU to participate.

KCC President Paul R. Watson II said the agreement exemplifies the schools’ continued dedication to empowering students to reach their full potential.

“Kellogg Community College is pleased to enhance its longstanding collaboration with Grand Valley State University, offering students a smoother transition from KCC to GVSU,” Watson said in a release. “This articulation agreement reflects our ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education to our students, providing more opportunities for them to pursue higher education seamlessly.”

GVSU is the second most popular destination for KCC students who transfer their credits to a four-year university, trailing only Western Michigan University. GVSU President Philomena V. Mantella said she is pleased to partner with KCC, helping increase educational access for students.

“This is an important partnership as the agreement helps to ensure students who have an associate degree from KCC will not face any barriers at Grand Valley when it comes to transferring credits, receiving financial aid, duplicating coursework or any other resource a student needs,” Mantella said in the release.

Alexia Kryszewski admits she initially didn't have community college on her radar, but she's now flourishing at KCC, immersing herself in as many activities as her schedule allows. Upon graduation from KCC, Kryszewski plans to continue her learning at GVSU in pursuit of her bachelor's degree.

"Connecting the college systems to make transferring a viable opportunity is truly impactful," Kryszewsk said Friday. "KCC and GVSU are breaking down these barriers in education which opens up a world of opportunity for so many students who wouldn’t have been able to have them otherwise.

"It is truly something I am honored to celebrate with everyone here today."
