KCK police investigating deadly crash near 18th, Tauromee Avenue

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is investigating a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday night that has left at least one person dead.

The crash was reported just after 5:30 p.m. in the area of N. 18th Street and Tauromee Avenue, near Donnelly College.

Police said the driver of one vehicle was speeding south on 18th Street when the driver attempted to pass a vehicle in front of them and struck a vehicle heading northbound.

The driver of the passing vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the northbound vehicle was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

KCKPD said at this time N. 18th Street between Tauromee Avenue and Orville Avenue is closed as they work the scene. It is expected to be closed for the next several hours.

Police are asking people to avoid the area at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
