KCU College of Dental Medicine: Oral Health Center

The Kansas City University Oral Health Center is seeing patients in Joplin.

The OHC is currently staffed by eight faculty dentists with experience in both private practice and higher education settings providing patients with expert care in a teaching environment.

Faculty can address urgent dental needs such as pain, bleeding and swelling.

The OHC currently a walk-in clinic; however appointments will be necessary when students begin seeing patients.

Hours of operation are as follows:
M 8:30 am 2:30 pm;
Tu 8:30 am 12 pm;
W 8:30 am 2:30 p; m
Th 8:30 am 12 pm.
(Clinic is closed for lunch daily from noon 1 pm)

As the students advance, they will provide general practice procedures such as oral health screenings, exams and dental cleanings. At that time, students will see the patient first and complete an assessment, then a faculty member will see the patient and provide an exam as well.

By the time students reach their third year, they will be able to fix fillings, crowns, perform X-rays and be totally immersed in the clinic. The day after they graduate in their fourth year, they can go straight into a practice.

The OHC accepts MO Medicaid and other insurances, although keep in mind the OHC is not a preferred provider for private insurance carriers.

In February KCU will begin screening for patients who are eligible to be treated by students.

Call the screening line to make an appointment to be screened: 417-208-0805

Students will be performing the procedures but everything will be reviewed and checked by faculty members. This will take a little bit longer than in a private office.

Compassionate and enthusiastic dental students and faculty who want to provide the best treatment possible.
