KDOT awards grants for ‘Safe Routes to School’ program

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced the 2024 recipients of planning and programming grants for the “Safe Routes to School” program.

The programming grants help schools and cities to study issues that may exist that affect safety, create public outreach, and find solutions to issues. Kick Start grants help support initial programs, events, and projects to build future programs.

USD 259 to hold school choices showcase

Planning grants were awarded to the Belle Plaine, Emporia, and Parsons in southeast Kansas, and the Holton school district and Rossville Community Foundation in northeast Kansas. Isley Traditional Magnet Elementary School, Wichita, and Bel Aire will together receive a Kick Start grant, along with Moundridge Parents and Teachers Together, USD 482 in Dighton, Johnson City in Stanton County, Rushton Elementary in Mission, Randolph Elementary in Topeka, and St. George Elementary in St. George.
