The victim of the Dec. 30, 2022 homicide, James Douglas White Jr., was 29.

City ‘concerned,’ ‘frustrated’ by violence in Kalamazoo

Police say though a conviction can’t undo the past, they hope it will “bring about a sense of closure” for family members.

The city commission in 2021 declared gun violence a public health crisis, according to KDPS. The department says it has been working alongside the prosecutor’s office and the community alike to reduce gun violence.
