The latest John Wick movie – Chapter 3: Parabellum – just knocked Avengers: Endgame off the top spot of the US box office, so in the least surprising news of the week, there's going to be another sequel.

John Wick: Chapter 4 will be released in exactly two years' time on May 21, 2021, Lionsgate has confirmed. But that's all we know about it for now, other than that Keanu Reeves will obviously return as the invincible assassin.

Chapter 3: Parabellum topped the US box office in its opening weekend, making an estimated series best of $57 million. To compare, this is nearly double the $30.4 million that Chapter 2 opened to in 2017, and quadruple the $14.4 million the first John Wick movie debuted with in 2014.

Plus, Chapter 3 has made another $36 million globally, resulting in a worldwide total of $92.2 million. Like the previous two films, it's also got strong marks on Rotten Tomatoes, at the moment hitting 88%.

There's no word on who's behind the camera for Chapter 4 just yet, but given Chad Stahelski has directed the last two (plus the original with David Leitch) and Derek Kolstad has written them all (he's a co-writer on Chapter 3), we'd be very surprised if both weren't back for it.

In fact, Stahelski has already spoken about plans for future John Wick movies, not to mention the TV show based around the Continental, saying that there's "no limit".

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is in cinemas now.
