Keep Arkansas Beautiful unveils new storybook to educate kids on recycling

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A new children’s storybook which aims to teach kids about the importance of litter prevention and recycling was unveiled by the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission.

Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Arkansas PBS hosted a live reading by Criaig O’Neill of their new book “The Messy Garden Mystery” at Pulaski Heights Elementary Thursday.

With the help of Otto the Otter and his new friend Marta, the book takes readers on an adventure and teaches kids what it takes to keep the Natural State shining bright.

“That’s the idea here, to let young Arkansans know that we have a special place to live.” Shea Lewis, Sec. of Dept of Parks, Heritage & Tourism said. “It’s beautiful, natural beauty and we want to keep it that way forever.”

The book is based on the locally produced Arkansas PBS series “Mystery League,” and is the second in a series.

KAB and AR PBS are offering “The Messy Garden Mystery” for free. Visit them at MyArkansasPBS.org to find out to receive it.
