Keep Pensacola Beautiful takes to Pensacola Beach with International Coastal Cleanup

Keep Pensacola Beautiful is hosting a Pensacola Beach cleanup in alignment with the International Coastal Cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Those interested in participating can join the staff and volunteers at the Casino Beach Gulfside Pavilion. Cleanup supplies will be provided by Keep Pensacola Beautiful. Participants are asked to wear weather appropriate clothing and bring a reusable water bottle. All volunteers must sign in at Park West and any minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The first International Coastal Cleanup dates back to 1986, with over 100 countries and 1 million volunteers participating each year. Any weather and event updates can be found on the International Coastal Cleanup Facebook event page. Closed toe shoes are required, and re-useable water bottles and sunscreen are recommended.

RSVP of Santa Rosa County hosts Fall Health and Wellness Expo

RSVP of Santa Rosa County is presenting its free Fall Health and Wellness Expo from 8 a.m. to noon Friday at the Clyde L. Gracey Community Center, 5629 Byrom St., Milton.

During the expo, attendees will have the opportunity to visit with a variety of local businesses and community organizations designed to help serve the areas older residents. Some of these groups include “Shine,” Legal Services of North Florida, the American Red Cross, the Santa Rosa County Emergency Operations Center and Assisted Living Locators.

The event will focus on the health of attendees with screenings and health education seminars, while also introducing the public to ways they can improve and maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle. This year‘s expo is hosted by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the city of Milton and the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County.

Rally On Tennis Tournament raises funds for childhood cancer research

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Rally On Tennis Tournament is back in full swing and set to take place at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Shoreline Park Community Center in Gulf Breeze.

The tournament has raised over $75,000 to date and has a lofty goal to raise $25,000 more with this year's event. The tournament currently has 14 business sponsors and will feature a silent auction and a gently used tennis gear/clothing store. The tennis portion of the tournament has 80 registered women playing and will be run by Whit Mann of Tighten up Tennis.

The Gulf Breeze community is invited to stop in and bid on silent auction items, buy gently used tennis items or just watch local women come together to smash out childhood cancer.

The Rally Foundation has awarded over $25.4 million in childhood cancer research grants across the country and around the world. Its mission is to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research, to find better treatments with fewer side effects, and ultimately, to cure childhood cancer.

City seeks input on Pensacola arts and culture priorities

The city of Pensacola is seeking the public's input on arts and culture in the Pensacola community, in order to help identify and shape the priorities of the newly-created Cultural Affairs Program.

Members of the arts community, arts and culture stakeholders, cultural and historic organizations, and all members of the public are encouraged to complete the Cultural Affairs Community Input Survey online now through Sept. 23. All input is welcome, and participants do not have to be a city of Pensacola resident to complete the survey.

The survey will gather input from the community about their priorities and ideas for enhancing arts and culture in the city.

West Florida Public Libraries seek volunteer for Board of Governance

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is seeking county residents interested in volunteering to be considered for an appointment to the West Florida Public Library Board of Governance.

The duties of the board include establishing policy, overseeing the management of Escambia County library services and making recommendations to the BCC regarding the annual budget according to the purposes and authority set forth in resolutions, inter-local and other agreements, and state and federal laws. The board will also establish an annual plan of service and the long-range strategic planning of library services.

West Florida Public Libraries provides service to all of Escambia County. Board meetings typically take place from 4 to 6:30 p.m. the fourth Monday.

Interested residents are asked to submit a resume and letter indicating their desire to serve by 5 p.m. Monday. Resumes should be submitted to Todd J. Humble, director, West Florida Public Libraries, 239 N. Spring St., Pensacola, FL, 32502; or by email to tjhumble@mywfpl.com.
