Oregon's 2025 recruiting class could include a player with a name familiar to longtime Duck fans.

Prep quarterback Akili Smith Jr., son of former Oregon great Akili Smith, announced on social media Friday he had received a scholarship offer from the Ducks, and thanked new offensive coordinator Will Stein.

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound sophomore from Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta, California, threw for 2,432 yards, 29 touchdowns and four interceptions last season, according to Maxpreps.com. He averaged 221 yards per game and completed 67% of his passes (211-for-314).

His father was a two-year standout quarterback for the Ducks and the 1998 Pac-12 co-offensive player of the year — along with UCLA quarterback Cade McNown — after throwing for 3,763 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He is second all-time at Oregon for single-season passing yards and is tied for third with Justin Herbert and Marcus Mariota for most TD passes in a single season. Mariota also threw for a school-record 42 in 2014.

Smith finished his Oregon career with 5,148 yards passing, 45 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He was the No. 3 pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

"Proud Dad moment!!!" Smith tweeted Friday in response to his son's announcement.
