Mr. and Mrs. Keith James Haddix of Monroe are observing their 70th wedding anniversary today. A dinner took place June 18 at their home.

Mr. Haddix and Catherine Sylvia Gimik met at a graduation party at PNA Hall on Sumpter Rd. in June, 1951. They were married June 21, 1952, at St. Anthony Church, Belleville. Mr. Haddix finished building the family home on Ida-Maybee Rd. in 1962.

The couple's children and their spouses are Keith Jr. and Laura Haddix of Grosse Ile, Gary and Pam Haddix, Bonnie and Steve Krukowski, Karen and Darryl Hauser and Tom and Jacqueline Haddix of Monroe, Glenn Haddix of Dundee, Paul and Nicole Haddix of Georgetown, Ky., and Steve Haddix of Allen Park. The couple’s first and last child were born on Feb. 24, 12 years apart. They also have 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. The family have four generations of Keith James Haddixes.

Mr. Haddix owned Haddix and Sons Farm Implement, 1950-62. He was then a machine repairman for Dundee Cement Co., 1963-65. He worked for Monroe County Drain Commission, 1968-72.

He attended St. Mary Grade School and graduated in 1951 from Monroe Catholic Central High School. He earned a two-year agriculture diploma from Michigan State University.

A member of Knights of Columbus and Monroe Catholic Central Alumni, he enjoys flying, golfing, fishing, boating and deer hunting.

In 2018, he received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award from the Federal Aviation Administration. The award is given for safety. He has been flying airplanes since he was 16.

Mrs. Haddix worked for Kaiser-Frazer of Ypsilanti, 1951-53. She was a secretary at St. Mary Grade School, 1966-1992.

She attended St. Leo’s Catholic School, Detroit, through Grade 8 and graduated from Belleville High School. She enjoys playing cards, bridge and euchre and spending time with family.
