Kelly Ripa Just Joked About Her Son Living In 'Extreme Poverty' In Brooklyn
Kelly Ripa joked about her son Michael, 22, living in "extreme poverty" in Brooklyn on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
She also said that he "hates paying his own rent" and is "chronically poor."
Kelly also joked that she was over her adult children coming home from college.
Anyone who's made the transition from living at home with their parents to striking out as an adult knows it can be tough. And apparently, Kelly Ripa’s son, Michael Consuelos, is on the struggle bus with it.
Kelly just went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and talked about how her 22-year-old son is doing on his own. "He lives in Brooklyn, in Bushwick," she said. "He loves the freedom. He hates paying his own rent and is chronically poor. I don’t think he’s ever really experienced extreme poverty like now."

Kelly said that Michael regularly receives $20 from his grandparents every year for Halloween, and he’s anxious to get it this year. "He’s called three times, like, 'Has the Halloween envelope arrived?' because he needs to take the subway to get [it] just so he can have electricity," she said. "He’s experiencing being an adult."
Kelly also said that Michael, along with his younger sister Lola (who just started college at NYU), keep coming home. When she and her husband Mark Consuelos dropped Michael off at NYU his freshman year in 2016, she says she told him, "You’re gonna be like other kids and come home when it’s regular visiting hours. Thanksgiving, Christmas, that’s it. Your dad and I need to rediscover each other." But, after Kelly and Mark had lunch, they went back to their apartment and found Michael there, asking to spend the weekend with them.
Lola, on the other hand, refused to promise to be home for the holidays, but ended up coming home after 12 hours. "We drop her off on Saturday, [go to Long Island] and Sunday evening, our alarm trips," Kelly said. "Our daughter is having a party on the roof of our house."
Kelly and Mark have one more son, 16-year-old Joaquin, who still lives at home. And Kelly really doesn’t want him to go to college near home. "He’s not allowed to apply in the tri-state area," she joked.
