Former Boston Celtics guard and UConn legend Kemba Walker — now with the New York Knicks — is set to face off against the Celtics in his first regular-season game since the team traded him for Al Horford in the offseason. Walker, who has had knee problems over the past few seasons, told NBC’s Abby Chin that his knee is feeling good. He also said he is planning to play when he can, even in back-to-back games if possible.

“I’m feeling really good, feeling really good,” Walker shared. “I’ve been available. I’ve been here. I’ve been here all practices. I’ve been able to play in all the preseason games.”

Walker, who has tremendous history playing at Madison Square Garden in college, will suit up for his hometown Knicks for the first time Wednesday. Adding that it is against Boston is another wrinkle.

Facing old friends

“Does it matter? Of course. It’s my old team,” Walker said.

“Yeah, it matters. But I don’t go into any game thinking I want to lose, you know? So, I definitely want to win. Does it make it that much better that it’s my old team? Yeah, no question.”

Jaylen and Jayson

Walker also complimented Boston’s two rising stars, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, ahead of the matchup. He praised their work ethic and upbringings, calling them “special guys” who deserve everything they will get.

“They’ve gotten better from day one when I was there to now,” Walker said. “They deserve every single thing that’s coming their way.”
