Kennesaw State finishes 11th in FCS

Jan. 10—Kennesaw State finished as the No. 11 team in the Football Championship Subdivision in the final STATS Perform top 25.

The Owls, who finished their season 11-2, as Big South champions and winners of an opening round playoff game, also finished No. 10 in the country in the American Football Coaches Association final poll.

This was the fourth straight trip to the playoffs where KSU won at least one playoff game.

North Dakota State, which won the Football Championship Subdivision national championship game, 38-10 over Montana State on Saturday, was a unanimous No. 1 in both polls. Montana State, James Madison, South Dakota State and Sam Houston State rounded out the top 5s. Montana, Eastern Washington, Villanova, East Tennessee State, which knocked KSU out of the playoffs with a 32-31 win in Round 2, and Sacramento State completed the top 10. KSU swapped spots with Sacramento State in the coaches poll.

Other teams of note included Tennessee-Martin, which is on Kennesaw State's 2022 schedule, was No. 13, and Jackson State, coached by Deion Sanders, came in at No. 22.

Mercer was just outside the top 25 but was receiving votes as was Davidson, which KSU beat in the opening round 48-21, and the Owls' future ASUN rival Eastern Kentucky.
