Kenneth Eugene Smith’s last 24 hours before execution

ATMORE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Alabama Department of Corrections released on Thursday Kenneth Eugene Smith’s activities over the last 24 hours before his execution.

On Wednesday, nine of Smith’s peers visited him including spiritual advisor Jeffery Hood, a friend, his brother, two of his nieces, his wife, his son, his grandson and his attorney, Robert Grass.

Smith refused breakfast, did not eat his lunch, drank a Mountain Dew, drank a Pepsi, partially ate his dinner and drank coffee. He also received a phone call from his wife on Wednesday.

On Thursday, nine peers visited Smith again. They were spiritual advisor Jeffery Hood, his mother, his wife, two friends, his son, two of his daughters-in-law and attorney Robert Grass.

He made another phone call with his wife on Thursday. He drank coffee, bottled water and Sprite. He accepted his breakfast meal, which included two biscuits, eggs, grape jelly, applesauce and orange juice.

Smith also accepted his final meal, which was steak, hashbrowns and eggs.

The scheduled witnesses for his execution were his wife, two sons and attorney Robert Grass.
