NEWCOMERSTOWN He might not be “the new kid in town” any more, but Evangelist David Kenney of the Newcomerstown Church of Christ is hoping area residents will join his congregation as the new “kids” in church.

Kenny and his family came to Newcomerstown just about a year ago, bringing a wealth of award-winning media work and business experience to the church’s efforts to win souls to the Lord. He has over eight years in the ministry and has also been a professional manager for over 10 years with a master’s degree in business administration from Kent State University. He also has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a Master of Divinity degree from the Freed-Hardeman University School of Theology.

“People are searching for answers and guidance in many areas,” Kenney said. “For those seeking the Lord, one must read His Word, the Bible. Sadly, many people overlook the fact that the Bible is God's revelation, His revealing of Himself to us. Biblical illiteracy is one of the major facts in the decline of spirituality. Christians have been promised His presence, so one should take steps toward becoming a Christian the way the Bible teaches. Then, the journey begins. We want people to come on this journey with us here at the Newcomerstown Church of Christ.”

Kenney and his wife, Annette, have been married for over 30 years and they have two children, James and Deborah, who attend Freed-Hardeman University.

“We also have a dog, Archie, and two misfit cats, Leonidas and Valentine,” Kenney said. “In addition to preaching, teaching, and lecturing, I like to fish, write, blog, podcast and listen to all types of music.

“I am just a simple guy, I live day to day. I have long believed the phrase ‘I am not perfect but am being perfected.’ He's still working on me! My dad taught me that the church is a perfect institution made up of imperfect people. Sadly, many allow the imperfections to keep them from pursuing the perfect.”

Kenney was previously at the Church of Christ in Wadsworth, where he was also a television speaker and producer for “Light From Above” “Bible Readings & Hymns.” He was also editor for manuscripts for the West Virginia School of Preaching in Moundsville.

“Due to the influence of my late parents, I have always wanted to devote a portion of my life to the Lord and ministry on a more full-time basis,” he said. “My parents worked in ministry practically my whole life. We are grateful to congregations and Christians who have made this possible over the last few years, including the congregation at Newcomerstown.”
