Kenny Clark’s new deal with Packers includes team-record signing bonus
The four-year extension signed by Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Kenny Clark includes a team-record signing bonus.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the $70 million extension includes a $25 million signing bonus. Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel confirmed the latter number and revealed the new team record.
Per Silverstein, Clark’s $25 million signing bonus is the largest ever given to a non-quarterback by the Packers, eclipsing the old mark set at $20.5 million by Clay Matthews in 2013.
Clark, a first-time Pro Bowler in 2019, was about to enter the final year of his rookie deal in 2020. His new deal, if tacked onto the final year of his old deal, will keep him in Green Bay for the next five years. It averages $17.5 million in new money.
Among non-quarterbacks in the NFL, Clark’s $25 million signing bonus ranks tied for fifth, trailing only Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, Trey Flowers and Fletcher Cox.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has the team’s record for signing bonus at $57.5 million.
Signing bonuses are prorated over the length of the contract, providing the player with a big chunk of money upfront while helping the team spread the cost out over several years on the salary camp.
