Jun. 14—Kenny Nguyen has announced his candidacy for Broomfield City Council this fall, representing Ward 1.

"I think one real reason why I got really involved and interested in City Council was because I knew many city councilmembers throughout the past few years. My mentor and someone I really look up to is Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera," Nguyen said.

Primavera is a Democrat currently serving her second term as lieutenant governor. She ran on a platform of affordable, high-quality health care.

This is Nguyen's first-time running for City Council. During his campaign, Nguyen will be focusing on arts and culture as well as keeping Broomfield affordable. He currently serves on the Broomfield Arts, History and Cultural Council.

Born and raised in Colorado, Nguyen is the son of Vietnamese refugees and the first in his family to graduate college. He moved to Broomfield in 2018. He is currently the only candidate registered to run for a Ward 1 seat on the council.
