Kent County man wins $4 million on Michigan Lottery instant ticket

A Kent County man recently used his Michigan Lottery winnings to buy another ticket that won him a much bigger prize, according to the Michigan Lottery.

The 54-year-old man, who chose to remain anonymous, won $50 on an instant game and wanted to buy another instant ticket for that amount. However, the store was out of $50 tickets, so he settled on a Millionaire's Club instant ticket for $30, he told the Michigan Lottery.

When he scratched the ticket, he revealed a $4 million prize.

"When I scratched the ticket and saw I’d won $4 million, the first thing I did was call my brother," he told the Michigan Lottery. "He told me to make sure it wasn’t one of those prank lottery tickets, so I flipped it over and read through the fine print on the back. Once I confirmed it indeed was not a prank, I called the Lottery to have them confirm the prize as well."

He purchased his ticket at the Citgo gas station located at 3895 Plainfield Ave. NE in Grand Rapids.

He recently claimed his prize and opted to receive a one-time lump sum payment of about $2.7 million instead of 30 annuity payments for the full amount.

He plans to use the money to pay bills and travel.

"Winning still feels unreal, but I think it’s really going to sink in once I cash my check," he said.
