"The snow-induced Meter Holiday in downtown Kent is coming to an end," the city tweeted Friday. "Beginning Monday, January 31st, remember to feed the meter."

The meters, the city stated, will need to be paid weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

:Last week, Kent announced free two-hour parking was available at downtown meters because large snow piles made it hard for motorists to access them.

The city announced the news on social media, stating that the city's mayor, Jerry Fiala, had issued the "meter holiday" while snow piles made it unsafe to reach meters.

"No need to climb mountains," states an image announcing the move. The image was accompanied by a photo of a meter, with a large pile of snow surrounding the meter.

The free parking was limited to two hours. Vehicles that remained in place for longer than that were subject to ticketing.

At a meeting of City Council the day the meter holiday was announced, some council members complaining that snow piles were blocking sidewalks on heavily-traveled roads, forcing pedestrians to walk in the street.
