Toledo (5-2, 3-0) ends the game on a 45-3 run to defeat Kent State 52-31 at the Glass Bowl. The Rockets remain perfect in the MAC, while the Golden Flashes (2-5) slip to 1-2.

Sophomore quarterback Dequan Finn enjoys a career game - 16-of-22 for 263 yards and six passing touchdowns, 14 carries for 87 yards rushing and another score for Toledo.

Flashes still have not won in Toledo since 1977.

Dequan Finn puts the game away with his sixth TD toss, Toledo leads Kent State 52-31

The Dequan Finn show continues. Toledo's sophomore throws his sixth touchdown pass of the day, an 8-yarder to Mikel Barkley, and this one's pretty much over. Rockets lead Kent State 52-31 with 7:39 to play. Since scoring a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter the Flashes offense has produced 137 total yards and three points, while Toledo has gone on a 45-3 run.

Dequan Finn again, fifth TD pass puts Toledo up 45-31

Kent State has gone from up 21-0 to in deep trouble. After a Collin Schlee interception, Toledo quarterback Dequan Finn lands another bomb - this one 41 yards to Jerjuan Newton. Rockets lead 45-31, Finn now has thrown for 245 yards and 5 touchdowns. Flashes have 13:11 to engineer a comeback.

After Kent State misses a short field goal, Toledo takes its first lead on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Dequan Finn to tight end Jamal Turner. Rockets lead 38-31 late third quarter, Finn has 4 touchdown passes. Third quarter has just ended.

Thomas Cluckey field goal ties the game at 31

We're tied at 31 in Toledo after 43-yard field goal by Rockets kicker Thomas Cluckey, 8:43 to go in the third quarter. Both defenses have been much more resistant in the early minutes of the second half.

And yet another long touchdown pass by Dequan Finn has tied this game at 28. Finn hits Mikel Barkley in the end zone for a 39-yard score, 3:52 left in the second quarter. Finn now has three touchdown passes and one rushing score, 191 total yards. Total yards now Kent State 245-236.

Kent State's start has now reached shocking levels. Montre Miller knocks the ball out of Toledo wide receiver Jerjuan Newton's hands and recovers the fumble. Kent State's fast start in Toledo continues. Defense forces a three-and-out, Ja'Shaun Poke delivers another big play with a 38-yard catch, quarterback Collin Schlee scores on a 12-yard run. Flashes go 76 yards in six plays, just 1:39 of possession time. Kent State leads Toledo 14-0 just 5:04 into the contest.

Ja'Shaun Poke returns the opening kickoff 46 yards, Kent State's offense takes it from there - 6 plays, 53 yards in 1:51. Marquez Cooper's 3-yard touchdown run gives the Flashes a quick 7-0 lead at Toledo. Poke missed the first four games of the season due to an injury, continues to make more of an impact each week.

More injuries at LB for Kent State - CJ Harris out

Kent State continues to deal with injury issues at the linebacker position. Junior CJ Harris will not play today at Toledo. Earlier this week grad student Khalib Johns was ruled out for the season.

Today's starting linebackers for the Flashes will be grad student Marvin Pierre and junior Khali Saunders along with true freshman Rocco Nicholl, who will make his first collegiate start.

Kent State, Toledo among MAC statistical leaders

Toledo leads the Mid-American Conference in scoring offense at 36.2 points per game, and is second in scoring defense - allowing 25.5 points per game. Kent State ranks sixth in scoring offense (27.2) and fourth in scoring defense (29.7). The Flashes rank first in rush offense at 200.7 yards per game, 13 yards ahead of the second-place Rockets.

Kent State has the MAC's top two receivers in Dante Cephas (103.2 yards receiving per game ) and Devontez Walker (85.3). Running back Marquez Cooper ranks first in all-purpose yards (134.8) and third in rushing (90.3 rushing yards per game).

Kent State seeks rare win in Toledo

The Golden Flashes (2-4, 1-1 MAC) have not won in Toledo since 1977, dropping the last 12 matchups. They’ve lost five straight games overall to the Rockets (4-2, 2-0) dating back to 2006, and have dropped nine of the 10 contests between the two programs since 1992. Only one of those nine losses came by single digits, a 35-33 setback when the teams last met in 2019. Visiting Kent State scored a touchdown and had a chance to tie the game with 5:27 left but failed on its 2-point conversion attempt, then Toledo ran out the clock.

Kent State will take on the hottest team in the Mid-American Conference on Saturday, the Toledo Rockets. Kickoff from the Glass Bowl is set for 3:30 p.m.

The Rockets (4-2, 2-0) opened MAC play by defeating West Division rivals Central Michigan and Northern Illinois both by 20 or more points. They are 3-0 at home this season, winning by a combined total of 103 total points. Toledo currently ranks first in the MAC in scoring offense (36.2 ppg) and second in scoring defense (25.5 ppg), even though they gave up 77 to current No. 2 Ohio State.

Meanwhile, the Golden Flashes (2-4, 1-1) are still seeking their first road win of the season after losing 27-24 at Miami of Ohio last Saturday. The Flashes have not played clean games the past two weeks since playing No. 1 Georgia tough before falling 39-22 on Sept. 24.
