Kentucky basketball recruiting: No. 1-ranked prospect Shaedon Sharpe to enroll at UK early

Shaedon Sharpe, the No. 1-ranked prospect in the high school class of 2022 according to Rivals and ESPN, announced Tuesday that he will enroll at Kentucky for the second semester this season.

Sharpe told Jason Jordan of Sports Illustrated that he will report to Lexington after Christmas and that he won't play in any games this season, but wants to begin training as early as possible.

“I'll do whatever the team needs, but 100% I will be at Kentucky to play next season," he told Sports Illustrated when asked about potentially playing this season.

The Canadian guard is the first top-ranked recruit to pick Kentucky since 2015 when the Wildcats landed Skal Labissiere.

Sharpe averaged 22.6 points per game during the regular season portion of the Nike EYBL circuit over the summer.

A move like this isn't new for John Calipari.

Hamidou Diallo committed and enrolled into Kentucky early in 2017, and he redshirted for the rest of the season.

Sharpe leads an already loaded 2022 class for Kentucky. Five-star guard Cason Wallace picked the Wildcats Sunday joining other top-20 prospects in Chris Livingston and Skyy Clark.
