Kentucky basketball still leads the nation in first-round NBA Draft picks. Here’s the list.

Cason Wallace’s selection by the Dallas Mavericks with the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and subsequent trade to the Oklahoma City Thunder helped keep the Kentucky basketball program in the lead all-time for first-round selections.

Kentucky now has 58 all-time first-round picks, 35 which were drafted under current head coach John Calipari.

Duke was previously tied for second but now has that spot by itself with 55 after two first-round picks — Dereck Lively II at No. 12 and Dariq Whitehead at No. 22 — in this year’s draft. North Carolina was shut out and is third with 53.

UCLA (41) and Kansas (36) are fourth and fifth, respectively. The Bruins had Jaime Jaquez Jr. at No. 18 while the Jayhawks’ Gradey Dick was No. 13.

Alex Groza, selected by the Indianapolis Olympians with the No. 2 overall pick in 1949, was the first UK player elected in the first round of NBA Draft, which began in 1947 when the league was known as the Basketball Association of America.
