Kentucky Blood Center to hold drive in Richmond

Sep. 13—On Thursday, Sept. 22, the Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) will be hosting a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Richmond.

The event will take place at First Christian Church located at 412 West Main Street in Richmond

Donors must be at least 17-years-old and weigh at least 110 pounds, however 16-year-olds can also donate if they have permission from their parents. The permission form required for donating blood can be found at kybloodcenter.org.

Donors should also be generally healthy and show a photo I.D.

While walk-in donations are allowed, appointments are preferred and can be made at kybloodcenter.org or by calling 800-775-2522.

According to the blood center, drives like the one in Richmond are especially crucial when blood donations are particularly slow.

KBC serves over 70 hospitals in Kentucky and is currently operating on a day-or-less supply of multiple blood types.

Donations made to KBC goes directly to people in the state to help with cancer treatment, premature birth, surgery, injuries sustained in car accidents, and more.

According to a press release from KBC, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion every two seconds.

Donors will be given two tickets for Cinemark Theaters and a fall-themed t-shirt.
