Kentucky Education Commissioner Jason Glass passed over to lead Maryland school district

Kentucky Education Commissioner Jason Glass has not been picked to be the next superintendent of Baltimore County schools.

The 111,000-student district announced they promoted Deputy Superintendent Myriam Yarbrough to the top seat Tuesday night. Glass was one of four finalists leaked to the press late last week.

More: Why do Republicans suddenly hate 'woke' Kentucky Education Commissioner Jason Glass?

Glass, who has led Kentucky's school system since 2020, recently became the target of Republican attacks in the legislature and the governor's race after defending department guidance around transgender students' pronouns, along with standing behind statements that if teachers fail to follow district policies, they should find a new job.

A Kentucky Department of Education spokesperson previously said that recent political attacks played no role in Glass' decision to apply for new jobs.

"At this point in my career, I am seeking a place where our family can put down roots and where I can have a long-term and meaningful impact on an educational system," Glass said in a statement last week.
