As the high school class of 2024 approaches the start of its senior year, the frequency of commitment announcements continues to increase. University of Kentucky women’s basketball head coach Kyra Elzy scored her first pledge of the recruiting cycle Sunday from in-state center Ramiya White of Butler High School in Louisville.

White, who stands 6-foot-5, announced her commitment via Twitter. “1000% COMMITTED,” she captioned the post.

White is taller than any player currently on the Kentucky roster, surpassing 6-4 incoming freshman Janae Walker.

Her commitment arrives just over a month after White reported an official visit to UK at the end of June.

White also previously reported offers from Mississippi State, Bowling Green State, Clemson, Syracuse, Kansas State, Dayton and North Carolina, as well as Miami (Fla.), West Virginia, Rutgers and Pitt under previous coaching staffs.

Per her Twitter, White received an offer from the Wildcats in November 2021 following a conversation with former assistant coach Amber Smith and took an unofficial visit to UK months prior in June 2021.

White spent her summer on the Adidas SSB circuit with 17U United Family Basketball, where she’s earned the nickname ‘”Baby Shaq” for being tough on the boards.

White played her freshman season with Mercy Academy in Louisville before transferring to Butler for her sophomore year. During her junior year with the Bearettes, White led Butler (13-13) both in scoring and rebounding with 8.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Butler won the 22nd District championship last season before falling to Mercy in the 6th Region Tournament semifinals.

UK women’s basketball will open its 2023-24 season with a Nov. 7 home game against East Tennessee State following a home exhibition versus Division II Kentucky State. UK’s roster currently stands at 12, including senior Nyah Leveretter who won’t be able to take the floor until she recovers from a torn ACL suffered late last season.

Ramiya White helped lead Butler to the 22nd District Tournament championship last season as the team’s top scorer and rebounder.
