Kentucky high school football roundup: How Drew Allen led Trinity football to victory

Drew Allen threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another score to lead the Trinity High School football team to a 31-10 victory at Cincinnati La Salle on Friday.

Allen completed 8 of 19 passes for 67 yards, with scoring throws going to Jacob Castelluzzo and Kurtis Bohn. Allen’s only rush of the night was a 3-yard touchdown run in the first half.

Luke Sasser led Trinity’s rushing attack with 82 yards on 16 carries. Clinton Sansbury added 41 yards on eight attempts.

After La Salle (2-2) pulled within 24-10 with 7:57 remaining, Jeremiah Lynn returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown that gave the Shamrocks a 31-10 edge.

Trinity’s defense was stout, limiting La Salle to 196 total yards (103 rushing, 93 passing).

Henry Clay 18, Eastern 12

Malcolm Paul passed for 104 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for a score to lead the host Blue Devils (2-2) over the Eagles (1-3).

Paul completed 5 of 13 passes and also rushed for 61 yards on 12 carries. His 33-yard touchdown run gave Henry clay an 18-6 lead with 6:39 remaining.

Tyson Huffman’s 54-yard touchdown run pulled Eastern within 18-12 with 5:41 left. Eastern drove to the Henry Clay 11-yard line with less than 2 minutes left but ultimately turned the ball over on downs.

Eastern’s Quintel Thomas rushed for 212 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. The Eagles outgained the Blue Devils 378-237 but couldn’t overcome three turnovers.

Lexington Catholic 42, Pleasure Ridge Park 19

Jackson Wasik passed for 312 yards and five touchdowns to lead the host Knights (3-1) over the Panthers (2-2).

Wasik completed 19 of 27 passes and was intercepted twice. Max DeGraff had five catches for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and Walker Hall carried 21 times for 132 yards and a score.

PRP’s Kayden Anderson completed 15 of 24 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns, both to University of Kentucky commit Jakob Dixon (eight catches, 188 yards).

Adam Taylor’s 11-yard touchdown run pulled PRP within 28-19 with 3:53 left in the third quarter, but the Knights scored the final 14 points.

Butler 20, Fern Creek 13

Shawn Marshall rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown to lead the Bears (2-2) over the host Tigers (2-2).

Tayvion Jones and David Crawly also had touchdown runs for Butler.

Fern Creek quarterback Kaleb Passmore threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Cothron and also had a 2-yard touchdown run. Running back Mykel Malone carried 21 times for 63 yards.

Holy Cross 9, Western 0

Tyler Ballard’s 6-yard run with 2:37 left in the second quarter was the only touchdown as the Cougars (3-1) beat the host Warriors (1-2).

Holy Cross added a safety in the third quarter on a blocked punt.

Ballard carried 20 times for 72 yards, and Chris Perry completed 6 of 14 passes for 61 yards.

Western’s Xavion Ware rushed for 55 yards on 22 attempts.

Seneca 34, Waggener 6

Antwan Young threw two touchdown passes and Darion Lacy scored twice to lead the Redhawks (4-0) over the Wildcats (1-3).

Young threw touchdown passes of 34 yards to Lacy and 62 yards to Jeremiah Brown. Lacy also had a 85-yard kickoff return for a score.

Seneca has outscored its four opponents by a combined 173-6. The four victories are the most in a single season since the 2014 squad finished 5-6.

Fairdale 41, Shelby County 6

Donnely Tran threw two touchdown passes and also rushed for a score to lead the Bulldogs (3-1) over the host Rockets (2-2).

Tran completed 10 of 22 passes for 146 yards and also rushed for 25 yards. Yanni Pearson led Fairdale’s rushing attack with 83 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Jayshawn Shannon had four catches for 54 yards.

Shelby County’s Gianni Hunter carried 21 times for 129 yards and a touchdown.

Belfry 24, Central 21

Aiden McCoy’s 21-yard field goal with 4.8 seconds left gave the Pirates (2-2) the victory over the Yellow Jackets (1-3).

Central’s Cortez Stone had a 58-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Southern 15, Iroquois 0

Calvin Kafando and Tahj Meadows had touchdown runs to lead the host Trojans (2-2) over the Raiders (0-3).

Southern rushed for 152 yards, led by Marion Aroche Despaigne (11 carries, 58 yards). Meadows had three tackles for loss to lead a Southern defense that allowed just 46 total yards (29 passing, 17 rushing).

Manual 47, Valley 0

Tyree Stoner passed for 112 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Crimsons (4-0) over the Vikings (1-3).

Stoner completed 4 of 5 passes. David Bohn led the rushing attack with 64 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Gerian Traynor, Zah’Ron Washburn and Grayson Delgado added TD runs for the Crimsons, and Howard Gant had a 47-yard punt return for a score.

Valley managed just 35 yards of offense.

Kentucky Country Day 49, Jeffersontown 6

E.T. Harris completed 8 of 11 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for a score to lead the Bearcats (3-1) over the host Chargers (0-4).

Troy Humphreys had two catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Kassani Wilson (eight carries, 44 yards, one TD) and Alex Bahe (eight carries, 43 yards, two TDs) led the ground attack.

KCD’s defense forced three turnovers and held J’town to 34 rushing yards.
