Senior safety Jalen Geiger is set to miss multiple games after suffering an injury in Kentucky football’s loss at Georgia.

“Jalen is one that looks like he’ll be out a few weeks for sure,” UK coach Mark Stoops said Monday before noting the status of other injured players is still up in the air this week.

Geiger injured his arm in the second quarter of UK’s 51-13 loss at Georgia on a play where star Bulldogs tight end Brock Bowers was left open for a 49-yard gain.

The senior safety has come off the bench to play a key role in UK’s secondary in each of the first six games. He has been credited with seven tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown in the season opener against Ball State.

Geiger’s 2022 season ended after just two games when he injured the patella tendon in his left knee. He opened 2022 as a starter, but by the time he returned to full healthy safeties Zion Childress and Jordan Lovett had emerged as starters at his position.

With Geiger out, the pressure will increase on Childress and Lovett. Freshman Ty Bryant is listed as Lovett’s backup at free safety on the pre-Missouri depth chart. Redshirt freshman Elijah Reed replaced Geiger as the backup behind Childress at strong safety.

Nose guard Keeshawn Silver and linebacker Trevin Wallace, who were both sidelined with shoulder injuries at Georgia, were listed on the pre-Missouri depth chart, as was wide receiver Barion Brown, who was limited against the Bulldogs due to a hamstring injury he suffered the week before against Florida. Left guard Kenneth Horsey, who has missed the last five games with a leg injury, was not listed on the depth chart.
