Kentucky All-Stars boys’ and girls’ rosters named for 2023 basketball series vs. Indiana

Mr. Basketball Reed Sheppard of North Laurel and Miss Basketball Haven Ford of Rowan County headline boys’ and girls’ rosters named Friday for this year’s Kentucky All-Stars.

The two 12-player teams from Kentucky will face their counterparts from Indiana in the states’ annual series June 9 in Owensboro and June 10 in Indianapolis.

Sheppard, who has signed with the University of Kentucky, and Ford, who is headed to Murray State, will wear the ceremonial No. 1 jerseys for their teams as Mr. and Miss Basketball winners in 2023.

Sheppard will be joined on the boys’ roster by Marcus Eaves of Madisonville, Crew Gibson of DeSales, Kenyon Goodin of Collins, Jeremiah Israel of Lloyd Memorial, Cyr Malonga of Evangel Christian, Jacob Meyer of Covington Holy Cross, Teagan Moore of Owen County, Reece Potter of Lexington Catholic, Gabe Sisk of Ballard, Gerard Thomas of Henderson County and Chappelle Whitney of state champion Warren Central.

Ford leads a girls’ roster that also includes Brianna Byars of George Rogers Clark, Kylee Dennis of Sayre, Emma Filiatreau of Bethlehem, Abby Holtman of Ryle, Whitney Lind of Cooper, Love Mays of Danville, Saniyah Shelton of Bowling Green, Ayden Smiddy of Southwestern, Destiny Thomas of McCracken County, JaKayla Thompson of Manual and Meadow Tisdale of Bowling Green.

The teams were selected by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches and the Kentucky All-Star Selection Committee.

Owensboro’s Rod Drake is head coach of the boys’ team, assisted by Jeff Morrow of Iroquois.

Boyd County’s Pete Fraley is head coach of the girls’ squad, assisted by Kristy Orem of Pikeville.

Kentucky will face Indiana in boys-girls doubleheaders on June 9 at the Sportscenter in Owensboro and June 10 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Tickets will be available beginning May 5 at kentuckybasketballcoaches.org.

Indiana leads the all-time boys’ series against the Kentucky All-Stars 102-44. The Hoosiers swept last year’s games 101-81 and 104-77 to run their winning streak to seven games in a series that dates to 1940.

Indiana also leads the girls’ series, 52-40, a matchup that dates to 1976. The teams split their games in 2022, with Indiana winning 67-66 in Owensboro then Kentucky rolling 101-76 the next night in Indianapolis.

The Indiana girls are led by Miss Basketball Laila Hull of Zionsville, who has committed to North Carolina.

Notre Dame commit Markus Burton, from Penn High School in Mishawaka, is Indiana’s 2023 Mr. Basketball.
