Kerkhoven man injured Thursday night in motorcycle crash near New London

Jun. 24—NEW LONDON — A Kerkhoven man was injured Wednesday night when his motorcycle crashed into another vehicle in Lake Andrew Township, according to a news release from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.

According to the release, Robert Anthony Kappes, 56, was transported to CentraCare — St. Cloud Hospital by Life Link helicopter for serious but non-life-threatening injuries following the crash. The driver of the other vehicle, Brittany Lee Kolkhorst, 27, of Blaine, was not injured.

Kappes was traveling west on County Road 40 Northwest on a 1988 Harley-Davidson when Kolkhorst, traveling north on County Road 5 in a 2006 Pontiac Torrent, stopped for a stop sign and proceeded into the intersection to continue north.

Kappes told law enforcement he attempted to maneuver his motorcycle around the Pontiac but struck the rear passenger side, causing him to be thrown from the motorcycle.

CentraCare Ambulance, New London Ambulance, New London Fire Department and Lakes Area First Responders assisted in the incident, reported at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday.
