Kern County Public Works to offer sand for potential flooding from latest atmospheric river

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Public Works Department is set to distribute sand for sandbags to prepare against potential flooding. Residents would need to provide their own bags and bring shovels for the available sand.

Public Works has distributed sand to nine locations throughout the county in anticipation of heavy rainfall.

Sandbags are available for purchase at local hardware stores.

Here is a list Public Works provided that shows where community members can fill their sandbags:

  • Bakersfield Sandbag Station: Exit Alfred Harell Highway onto Goodmanville Access Road on the east side of Alfred Harell Highway. You can use the Google Maps Plus Code C3P9 QF9 Bakersfield, California to find the location.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Hanford said the Bakersfield area could get between 2 to 3 inches of rain from the anticipated storm from Saturday night through Monday night.
