Kernersville man dies in head-on wreck
Jan. 6—WILKES COUNTY — A Kernersville man was killed Wednesday in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer in eastern Wilkes County.
Donald Fawlkes, 59, was driving a 2018 Ford Escape south on Red White and Blue Road near U.S. 421 in the Roaring River community just after noon when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer, the N.C. State Highway Patrol reported. Fawlkes died at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Michael Caughman, 32, of Willow Springs, was taken by ambulance to Wilkes Medical Center with injuries that the Highway Patrol said were not considered life-threatening.
No charges are expected, Master Trooper Jeffrey Swagger told The High Point Enterprise. There were no other passengers involved.
