Kerosene customers got gas instead at Hampton Tinee Giant

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Tinee Giant confirmed to 10 On Your Side it is offering some customers a refund after they were given gasoline when they thought they were buying kerosene.

Anyone who purchased “kerosene” between Dec. 6, 2023 and Jan. 25, 2024 from the Hampton Tinee Giant located at 2003 W Pembroke Avenue is eligible for a refund.

In order to get the refund, these customers need to return to the store with the product.

WAVY spoke with a representative from the Tinee Giant corporate office Friday, who said the kerosene tank was the only tank affected and that the error only happened at the Hampton convenience store location.

Kerosene is a flammable liquid commonly used as a fuel, for burning in kerosene lamps and heaters or furnaces. According to Brittanica, Kerosene is less volatile than gasoline.
