‘Chaining Zero’

Kent State University opens the new musical with a book by musical theater alumni John Moauro and Griffin Parsons at 7:30 p.m. Friday, continuing through Nov. 14 at E. Turner Stump Theatre, 1325 Theatre Drive, Kent. People stranded together on a New York City subway car learn that an unexpected stranger could alter their lives forever. Tickets cost $10-$18. Celebrity cellist

Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the cellist who catapulted to international fame with his performance at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, makes his Cleveland Orchestra debut with Elgar's Cello Concerto Thursday through Sunday at Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. ‘Magical Thinking’

Cesear's Forum opens the stage adaptation of Joan Didion's award-winning, bestselling memoir, "The Year of Magical Thinking," Friday at Kennedy's Down Under in Playhouse Square, 1501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. GroundWorks

Contemporary dance company GroundWorks DanceTheater of Cleveland will perform the first dance shows ever at the new Knight Stage at the Akron Civic Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday. The program will feature a world premiere dance by Executive Artistic Director David Shimotakahara and a world premiere work by Los Angeles-based choreographer James Gregg. Cost is $25.
