Keshena man sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for buying and selling drugs out of home

GREEN BAY – A 32-year-old Keshena man was sentenced Friday to three years in federal prison for buying and selling drugs out of his home and exposing his 3-year-old son to the drugs.

Louis Chevalier was convicted of maintianing a drug-involved residence and felony child neglect that caused bodily harm after he pleaded guilty to the charges in December.

Michelle Grignon of Keshena was also convicted of child neglect, causing bodily harm. She was sentenced in November to three years of probation.

According to court records, officers from the Menominee Tribal Police Department and the Menominee County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at a residence on Onanekwat Resort Lane on the Menominee Indian Reservation. They found Chevalier "using some sort of drug" through a torch and pipe with the child sitting on his lap, and drug paraphernalia throughout the residence.

Chevalier and three other occupants of the residence told officers Chevalier had been buying and selling controlled substances out of the home for multiple months, possibly up to a year, court records say.

Prior to executing the search warrant, officers had been investigating illegal drug sales from the home for about three months. Numerous people who admitted to buying drugs from the home told investigators the young boy was often present during the drug deals, according to court records.

Officers contacted child protective services, who took the child from the residence. The child tested positive for multiple controlled substances, including traces of fentanyl. He also had "severe tooth decay" that required surgery.

Senior U.S. District Judge William C. Griesbach gave Chevalier a significantly lower sentence than the the maximum amount for the two charges, 23 years in prison.

Following his time in prison, Chevalier will spend three years on supervised release.
