Kettle Moraine girls basketball star Grace Grocholski decommits from West Virginia after coach's departure
Three-time Classic 8 Conference player of the year and back-to-back Division 1 state champion Grace Grocholski announced on Thursday morning that she would be decommitting from the West Virginia women’s basketball program following the departure of head coach Dawn Plitzuweit last week.
"It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to reopen my recruitment due to the departure of Coach Dawn from West Virginia," Grocholski wrote. "I am eager to find a new home to continue my basketball career and I looking forward to the opportunity of competing at a high level."
Plitzuweit spent one season with the Mountaineers before replacing former Minnesota great Lindsey Whalen after Whalen's resignation for the same position. Grocholski committed to Plitzuweit and the Mountaineers this past summer after decommitting from her previous commitment to Arizona State after Charli Turner Thorne retired after 26 seasons at the helm.

Grocholski capped her prep career with another outstanding season for the Lasers, who went 28-1 this past year and won their second straight Division 1 state championship with a 47-40 victory over top-seeded Brookfield East in the title game back on March 11. The McDonald's All-American team candidate and 2023 Wisconsin Ms. Basketball finalist led all scorers in the contest with 24 points and five rebounds.
The 5-foot-10 forward averaged 24.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game during her senior campaign, ending her career with 2,294 career points (13th all-time), 984 rebounds, 344 assists and 231 steals. Kettle Moraine went 91-18 over her four years with the Lasers. She was named to the WBCA All-State team in Division 1 in three of her four seasons while being selected to the association's all-state honorable mention list as a freshman.
