Kevin Durant opens up on the ‘Kevin Garnett effect’ on NBA trash talk
Kevin Durant isn’t the type of player who will trash talk opponents during a game — he would rather have his game do the talking most of the time. Durant has encountered a few players throughout his career that took trash talking to another level, though, and Durant recalled Kevin Garnett’s legendary trash talk game during a recent episode of The ETCs Podcast.
When the conversation turned to Kendrick Perkins, who played alongside Garnett with the Celtics, Durant touched on “the KG effect,” which eventually influenced the entire league.
“That was that KG effect. KG rubbed off on him when he was in Boston. Pretty much taught him everything he know. They had a veteran team. When you got a veteran team, they know all the slick talking [expletive].”
According to Durant, the players that learned under Garnett took his style of trash talk to other teams and set a new culture.
“They set the culture in the league for a while, KG, which was… all the dudes KG had underneath him, he was passing them along the league. Tony Allen here, Rondo over there, Perk over there. He was affecting the whole league with his [expletive] talking.”
