Kevin Durant rocks UConn sneakers for Brooklyn Nets in Monday night’s game

As Jim Calhoun has told it, Kevin Durant almost played for UConn.

The future first-ballot Hall of Famer, NBA MVP, two-time NBA champion and once-in-a-generation talent almost laced up his sneakers for the Huskies, and it took a change of heart following a visit to Storrs for him to end up at Texas instead.

“I had him at the house and he committed. Two days later, his dad and he went down to Texas and it was over,” Calhoun told Sirius XM NBA Radio in November.

“He would’ve been pretty good playing with some of the players he would’ve played with, with us. Tough loss, but once again, I got some guys who ended up being pretty good themselves,” Calhoun said.

Durant, of course, never looked back, but judging by his sneaker choice on Monday night, maybe he wonders what his college career would have been like if he had chosen UConn?

KD rocked a pair of UConn-themed KD 15s for the Brooklyn Nets against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.

You have to look pretty closely at the above pictures (and click on the tweet), but you can see the Husky logo on the tongue of his left sneaker. The shoes are also in UConn colors, navy blue and red.

But don’t get too excited Huskies fans— it’s probably not that KD is reminiscing and lamenting his college choice. He also wore an Oregon Ducks-themed KD 15 sneaker earlier this season.

Also, if you wanted to cop a pair of these special kicks, there’s bad news on that front, too. The UConn sneakers Durant wore are player-exclusive sneakers (PEs), meaning that they aren’t being sold to the general public. Nike does offer a bunch of colorways on its website, but you can’t buy the ones KD is wearing with the Husky logo.

Just like his college career, Kevin Durant has kept UConn fans dreaming ‘what if.’ But at the very least, maybe the Huskies are still on his mind?
