SB Nation: 4 ways Kevin Durant’s trade request can end

Ricky O'Donnell broke down four ways the saga with Durant could end and one of them was with the Nets trading him to the Phoenix Suns.

He writes: "If Durant has it his way, he’d be traded to Phoenix so he can play with Devin Booker. Maybe there’s still a deal out there even after Ayton re-signed, but it’s probably going to require the Suns to part with four unprotected first round picks, and include some pick swaps. Otherwise, Phoenix is going to have to get creative to rope in other teams to complete a multi-team deal. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the Suns haven’t been willing to throw their full lot of picks in a KD deal. Personally, I think that’s stupid. The Suns have historically been a loser franchise that no one wants to play for. They have never won a title before. The fact that one of the 15 greatest players ever, who is signed for four more years, actually wants to come to Phoenix should be the ultimate cause for celebration. Trading a bunch of future picks and Mikal Bridges for Durant would dramatically increase their odds at winning the 2023 championship. Of course there’s risk involved, but there’s also risk involved with not trading for KD. The Suns should really do whatever it takes to land him."

Trevor Booth writes: "The Nets reportedly would prefer to keep Durant if no one can match their request. So, that means the Suns might have to increase their trade package — which may include Bridges — to make that happen. The possibility of including Bridges makes more sense now that the Suns have retained Ayton. Even if it parts with their starting small forward, backup forward Cameron Johnson and starting forward Jae Crowder, Phoenix could have a deadly lineup with guards Chris Paul and Devin Booker, Durant and Ayton."

NBC Sports: Kevin Durant staying with Nets would help Warriors, hurt Suns

Tom Dierberger writes: "If Durant were to remain on the Nets roster and give his partnership with Kyrie Irving another chance, it would greatly benefit the defending champion Warriors. Most importantly, it would keep Durant in the Eastern Conference. When the trade rumors first dropped, it was reported that Durant had named the Phoenix Suns as a favored destination. No matter who the Suns surrendered in that potential trade -- even if it was Devin Booker (which would force the Nets to move Ben Simmons due to designated rookie extension limitations) -- Phoenix would arise as Golden State's biggest threat to repeating a championship next season."

ESPN: 'Sparse' communication between Kevin Durant, teammates

Brian Windhorst said on Get Up: "Nobody knows what Kevin Durant is thinking right now. His communication with teammates and others in the league has been sparse. I don't even think that the Nets have a 100% understanding of why Kevin asked for a trade."

Sporting News: What the Suns can trade for Kevin Durant

Kyle Irving writes: "Ayton, Devin Booker, Damion Lee, Bismack Biyombo and Josh Okogie all cannot be included in a deal for Durant because they each have signing restrictions. Everyone else on Phoenix's roster is available. Value-matching aside, the Suns would also have to get in the realm of Durant's salary of $44.1 million for the 2022-23 season in a deal. The Suns have full control of their future first- and second-round draft picks. The Suns have their Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception ($10.5 million) and their Bi-Annual exception ($4.1 million) available for use. It's important to note that only one of these exceptions may be used in a season and they cannot be combined."

I think Brooklyn is the best option for Kevin Durant… I think he should run it back. I think he should have a ‘coming to Jesus’ meeting with his quote-unquote brother in Kyrie Irving. Draft Kings: Nets, Suns lead updated Kevin Durant trade odds

Draft Kings has released updated odds for Kevin Durant's next team and the Brooklyn Nets are now the favorite to be the team in which the star plays his next regular reason minute, at -130.

Interestingly, the Phoenix Suns are second in the odds at +260 after matching the Indiana Pacers' offer sheet for Deandre Ayton.

The Toronto Raptors are third in the odds to be Durant's next team, at +400.

The Miami Heat are fourth, at +750.

The Golden State Warriors round out the Top 5 at +800.

Further out, the Boston Celtics are +1400, while the Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers are both +2000.

ESPN: Nets still trying to trade Kevin Durant

Adrian Wojnarowski said on Get Up: "I think if Kevin Durant came to Brooklyn and said 'Hey, I've changed my mind. I want to be here. I'm committed to this. Of course they would want him to stay. But if Kevin Durant's not doing that, you're still trying to trade him. You want players who want to be there. You don't want the environment to be filled with players who are unhappy, who don't want to be a part of it. But they've got to get value for him. They've got to get significant value for him, and the trade scenarios out there for him are still complex.

"Miami is a very motivated team, but we've been through it. Bam Adebayo and Ben Simmons can't be on the team together based on their contracts. There would have to be a lot of third and fourth team involvement. Phoenix is a little more limited now because they can't trade Deandre Ayton, they were never going to trade Devin Booker. Do they have enough assets to do it? Toronto doesn't want to part with Scottie Barnes, that's their stance. Brooklyn, right now, wouldn't consider a deal without Scottie Barnes.

"There's still other teams out there, but I think for the Nets, because Kevin Durant's got four years left on his deal, this is different than Kawhi Leonard four years ago when he was going into the last year of the deal. That situation had hung over the Spurs, it was right around this time they moved him.

"There's no deal imminent for Brooklyn, but they are still trying to find a trade for Durant."

Hoops Hype: Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving holding up NBA free agency

NBA player Langston Galloway talked about how Kevin Durant was creating a standstill in free agency.

“Right now (Kevin Durant) and (Kyrie Irving) are holding things up,” Galloway said. “Once what those guys do is decided, things will fall into place for the rest of us.”

ESPN: Nets focused on a Kevin Durant trade

Adrian Wojnarowski said: "The Nets right now are focused on a trying to find a Kevin Durant deal. I would be surprised if they did a Kyrie Irving trade, even if they do one at all, before they figure out what Kevin Durant's future is."

Yahoo Sports: Heat maneuvering for potential Durant trade, Nets ‘lukewarm’ on deal

Nick Schwartz wrote: "According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Heat are looking to acquire multiple draft picks to either send to Brooklyn for Kevin Durant, or to Utah for Donovan Mitchell. The Heat currently only have two first-round picks they can trade, and the Jazz are reportedly looking for an even bigger haul of picks than they received for Rudy Gobert. The Nets, however, may not be interested in what the Heat are selling. Kurt Helin of NBC Sports reports that Bam Adebayo is off the table in trade packages from Miami, meaning the Nets’ main return in a Durant trade would be Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson. Per Helin, the Nets are ‘lukewarm’ on a Herro-Robinson package."

ESPN: Nets not interested in diminished trade package for Kevin Durant

Adrian Wojnarowski said: "Brooklyn has an owner in Joe Tsai who my sense is not interested in taking a diminished trade package to just move [Kevin Durant] on."
