Dwayne Johnson has said that Kevin Hart is a “lucky man” following a car accident earlier this month that left him with major back injuries.

Asked about the health of his friend and frequent co-star while appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Johnson said that Hart is “doing well”, adding: “Everything is good. I spoke with Kevin – I connected with him today. And you know what? These things happen in life and thankfully he was strapped in nicely to his car seat.”

Johnson stepped in at the last minute to replace Hart as Clarkson’s first guest on her new talk show, while Hart was in hospital.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Johnson continued. “He’s a lucky man, and he knows it, too. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery and I’m going to see him soon.”

The Blast reported yesterday that Hart is expected to be released from hospital this week, with sources telling the site that the actor and comedian had made “great strides in his healing after he had major back surgery to repair several fractures in his spine”.

They did claim, however, that Hart will require the assistance of a back brace and will be watched by medical professionals “round the clock” to monitor his progress.

It was reported earlier this week that Hart was still in “excruciating pain” following the accident, in which his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda veered off the road in Malibu and over a steep verge.

Hart and Johnson will next appear together in the sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, which is released on the 13 December in the UK.
