Kevin Smith Announces New ‘Masters of the Universe’ Netflix Limited Series

Kevin Smith had a big surprise for He-Man fans Sunday, as he announced that he will be executive producer and showrunner on a limited “Masters of the Universe” series that Netflix will develop.

The new series, “Masters of the Universe: Revelations,” will focus on the unresolved storylines of the original 1982 TV series, picking up many of the characters’ journeys where they left off decades ago.

“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” said Smith in a statement. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Mattel Television will produce the series, with Rob David, VP of Mattel TV and author of “He-Man: the Eternity War,” serving as an executive producer. Powerhouse Animation, which worked on Netflix’s “Castlevania,” will animate it.

Joining Smith on the writing team are Eric Carrasco (“Supergirl”), Tim Sheridan (“Reign of the Supermen”), Diya Mishra (“Magic: The Gathering”) and Marc Bernardin (“Alphas”).

Netflix isn’t the only company developing new He-Man tales. Sony has set a “Masters of the Universe” movie for release in Spring 2021, with Noah Centineo in talks to star.
