Kewanee, Annawan-Wethersfield golfers swing into action

Just three days after practice began, Kewanee and Annawan-Wethersfield golfers swung into action.

Coach Ryan Hansen sent the Boilermaker boys to battle LaSalle-Peru at Seneca's Oak Ridge Golf Club, La Salle, on Thursday, Aug. 11, while the girls stayed home to play Bartonville Limestone at Baker Park.

Annawan-Wethersfield Coach Ann Heller's teams hosted Stark County and Galva at Midland Golf Club, rural Kewanee.

Kewanee golf

Boiler Girl Mya Mirocha carded 37 to earn match medalist honors at Baker Park. Aspen Schwickerath added 47 and Eleanor Burkhardt 49. Without a fourth score, Kewanee could not turn in a team score. Limestone's medalist was Morgan Stephens, 53.

Playing on their home course, LaSalle-Peru defeated the Kewanee boys 151-207. Cavalier Carter Fenza shot 37 for match medalist honors.

Emmitt Brokaw was the Kewanee medalist with 45. Nolan Benecke contributed to the team score with a 51, while Andy Osborne added a 55 and Shaan Dev a 56. Owen Laue shot 75.

Scoring for LaSalle-Peru were Fenza; Coleman Rundle, 40; Jon Milota, 41, and Noah Rietgraf, 43. Also playing were Drake Hawthorne, 57, and Will McLaughlin, 58.

A-W golf

The Titan girls split with their foes at Midland. Annawan-Wethersfield edged Stark County 297-300, but Galva defeated the hosts 247-297.

Taylor Haga of Galva was the match medalist with 56. Elizabeth McGill's 61 made her the Annawan-Wethersfield medalist, while C.J. Richards's 70 earned her the Stark County medalist honors.

Titan girls contributing to the team score were McGill; Katie Attig, 74; Elle Eastman, 79, and Maya Hakes, 83. Elise Manuel shot 86.

Wildcat golfers were Haga; Jayden Sallee, 59; Ava Anderson, 63, and Mia Merkel, 69, as well as Tori Conner, 82, and Katie Clemons, 86.

Stark County scorers were Richards; Olivia Orwig, 75; Lauren Orwig, 76, and Lindsey Johnston, 79.

In the boys match, Stark County topped Annawan-Wethersfield 202-249. Galva did not have a full team.

Galva's Jaxson Willer was the match medalist with 37. Seth Moore, 51, was the Annawan-Wethersfield medalist, while Jimmy Langdon was the Stark County medalist with 46.

Annawan-Wethersfield boys chipping in to the team score were Moore; Caleb McGill, 59; Payton Wallace, 64, and Drew Wise, 75. Also on the course was Zach Gerber, 91.

Galva golfers were Willer; J.P. Sloan, 62, and Braden Murphy, 79.

Stark County boys scoring were Langdon; Jack Colgan, 49; Drew Rumbold, 52, and Colin Streitmatter, 55. Adam West shot 60 and Mark Wagner 63.
