Kewanee's basketball girls hit 3s, but can't overcome St. Bede

Despite a rain of threes from the Boiler Girls, St. Bede defeated Kewanee 64-53 on Thursday, Jan. 27, in the Bruin gym.

St. Bede edged Kewanee 10-8 in the first quarter and 20-18 in the second. At halftime, the Bruins led 30-26. The third quarter was even, with each team posting 16 points. St. Bede pulled away in the fourth with an 18-11 advantage.

Bruin Elle Hermes sizzled the net with a game-high 23 points.

Kewanee scorers were Mya Dearing, 13 points; Emma Crofton, 12; Larissa Meyer, eight; Kirra McLean-Garcia, six; Lainey Kelly and Emily Eggimann, five points each, and Marissa Stevens, four.

The Boilermakers fired in eight threes, with Dearing netting three; McLean-Garcia and Crofton, two each, and Eggiman, one. St. Bede had one.

Kewanee made three of four free throws. Dearing shot 2-for-2 and Kelly 1-for-1. St. Bede made 13 of 28.

Referees whistled Kewanee for 19 fouls and St. Bede, nine.
