National chain stores David's Bridal and Bed Bath & Beyond both filed for bankruptcy protection in recent weeks after they failed to raise enough money to keep the stores open.

This comes at a particularly difficult time as the height of the wedding season nears. Both of the big-box retailers have locations in the Jackson metro area.

"David’s Bridal will keep its nearly 300 stores and website operating and fulfill all customer orders as it searches for a buyer for the company. It will also honor gift cards, returns and exchanges," the company told CNN.

Customers can continue to shop David's Bridal or search for other bridal companies. David's Bridal has four Mississippi locations, including one in Madison.

A David's Bridal manager declined to comment and hung up the phone when asked about the status of the Madison location.

As for Bed Bath & Beyond, Mississippi has four locations including one area location in Flowood. But the Meridian location is already temporarily closed.

Bed Bath & Beyond managers declined comment, but the location in Flowood is having a store closing sale of 10-40% off everything in the store.

For now, other Mississippi Bed Bath & Beyond stores and their websites, will remain open, and gift cards and merchandise credits will be accepted through Monday, May 8, according to the company’s website.

Surrounding area customers can still shop at the open locations in Mississippi.

“Thank you to all of our loyal customers. We have made the difficult decision to begin winding down our operations,” a statement at the top of the company's website read.
