KFC Is Selling A Donut And Fried Chicken SandwichKFC

Update, February 20, 2020 10:28 a.m.: After a successful test run and some pretty insane demand, KFC has decided to make its Fried Chicken and Donuts a nationwide offering.

Starting next week, you can pick up hot and sweet donuts with crispy and salty KFC fried chicken all in one place. The dishes will be available at participating KFC locations for a limited time.

Similar to its test run, you can pick up a Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts Basket meal, which includes chicken tenders that are paired with one donut, or, in the case of the Big Basket meal, two donuts. You can also get a Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts Sandwich, which is a chicken filet in between two glazed donuts. All of the meals range in price from $5.49 to $7.99.

If you're just feeling a donut on the side, you can also get that a la carte with any order too for an extra cost.

You can start picking these up at your nearest participating KFC location beginning February 24, but if you just can't wait, the chain will be opening The Colonel’s (Chicken &) Donuts Shop, a pop-up store, in Los Angeles on February 22.

The rest of us will just have to wait until they are available nationwide, but don't hesitate too long. They'll only be sticking around until March 16 or until supplies last.

Original post, September 17, 2019: To paraphrase the great thinker Joey Tribbiani from Friends, donuts? Gooood. Fried chicken? Goood. Donuts and fried chicken? Gooood. Though it may seem like a truly strange pairing, KFC announced Tuesday that it was testing out a donut and fried chicken sandwich in select markets.

The sandwich is absolutely what it looks like; it will feature a piece of fried chicken between two glazed donuts for $5.99. It's actually just one of two pastry/chicken combinations the chain is testing out. The other is a Fried Chicken & Donut Basket meal, which includes chicken on the bone or chicken tenders paired with one donut for $5.49. You can make it two donuts $7.49 if you're feeling up to the task. Just want a donut? That will run you $1.

You may be scratching your head at the idea of donuts and fried chicken together, but as KFC pointed out, the combo has been popular in places like Philadelphia, San Diego, and Portland in recent years. Plus, who doesn't love chicken and waffles? This trend just seems to take a sweet and savory combo to the next (fried) level. Plus, if we're still talking chicken sandwich wars (are we?), this seems like a major curveball.

If you're looking to give this one a try, it's available now if you live in the Norfolk/Richmond, Virginia, and Pittsburgh areas. It's just a test, but chances are if it's successful, you could be seeing this one in other places around the country soon. In the meantime, I guess you can MacGyver this one by getting a hot dozen from Krispy Kreme and a bucket of boneless chicken from KFC. You can't really go wrong with that!
