Kharkiv Museum Destroyed in Fire Caused by Air Strike

Workers sifted through debris after an airstrike destroyed a museum in the village of Skovorodynivka, in the Kharkiv Region on May 7.

According to Suspilne, shelling hit the National Literary and Memorial Museum of Hryhorii Skovoroda, causing a large fire that destroyed the building.

This footage shows crews removing a large statue of Skovoroda, the 18th century philosopher and poet for whom the museum was dedicated. Some workers collected broken jugs and burnt books in an attempt to save any remaining exhibits.

In a video message uploaded on May 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks, saying "the Russian army destroyed or damaged nearly 200 cultural heritage sites” as of May 7. Credit: Suspilne via Storyful
