KHSAA Class 2A football final: Late field goal lifts Beechwood over Lexington Christian
Jake Conrad’s 36-yard field with 1:50 remaining lifted the Beechwood High School football team to a 23-21 victory over Lexington Christian on Friday in the Class 2A state final at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field in Lexington.
A crowd of 7,679 saw Beechwood beat Lexington Christian in the final for the second straight year after the Tigers’ 24-23 overtime victory in 2020.
Beechwood (15-0) won its 16th state championship and fifth in six years. The Tigers won three straight Class A titles from 2016-18.

On Friday, Beechwood jumped to a 20-0 late in the second quarter on Mitchell Berger’s 8-yard touchdown run.
Lexington Christian (14-1) rallied back and took a 21-20 lead on Tyler Morris’ 11-yard fumble return for a touchdown with 7:55 left in the third.
After Conrad’s field goal gave Beechwood the lead, Lexington Christian had a final possession and drove into Tigers territory before turning the ball over on downs with 21 seconds left.

Hergott, an Eastern Kentucky University commit, carried 29 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns and also completed 6 of 12 passes for 58 yards. Berger added 60 yards on 12 carries.
LCA quarterback Drew Nieves completed 6 of 14 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. Xavier Brown, a Virginia commit, carried 10 times for 66 yards and a score.
