KHSAA Class 5A football final: Veltkamp leads South Warren over Frederick Douglass
Caden Veltkamp passed for 295 yards and three touchdowns to lead the South Warren High School football team to a 38-26 victory over Frederick Douglass on Saturday in the Class 5A championship game.
A crowd of 6,502 fans at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field saw South Warren (14-1) win its third state title in the past seven seasons.
Veltkamp, a senior who has committed to Western Kentucky, had touchdown passes of 49 yards to Luke Burton and 21 and 31 yards to Tyler Snell.

Luke Burton led South Warren’s rushing attack with 79 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. His 24-yard touchdown run with 20 seconds remaining sealed South Warren’s victory.
Frederick Douglass quarterback Samuel Cornett completed 13 of 26 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Dane Key, a UK commit, had five catches for 155 yards and two scores for the Broncos (13-2).
Frederick Douglass dropped to 0-2 in state finals, having lost to Covington Catholic in the 2019 final.
