PETOSKEY — Kids ages 2-6 can search through the Petoskey District Library on Saturday, April 1 for a fun Easter egg hunt that is safe for those with food allergies.

“There’s just no food items (in the eggs),” said library director Val Meyerson. “There’s little toys in the eggs and then everybody gets books when they’re done finding their eggs.”

The egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. It is organized in partnership with the Petoskey District Library, the Tip of the Mitt Spartans alumni group, the 4-H club and McLean & Eakin Booksellers.

“This started pre-COVID, we had a couple of years where we offered this because a couple parents came to us wanting to provide an Easter egg hunt for their kids that have allergies and can’t have candy,” Meyerson said. “We worked with them at that time, and then the Spartan alumni association actually kind of nudged us to get it started again because they have people that they know would appreciate that.”

According to the Tip of the Mitt Spartans group, kids will be able to take home a free Easter book provided by McLean & Eakin and the 4-H club will also host an arts and crafts activity.

“It’s really fun to just see all the families gathered at one time,” Meyerson said. “It’s a bit crazy and chaotic, but it’s all good energy and it’s just fun to participate in that and to be able to provide a service for our community where there’s a need for something like this. It’s nice that we can do that.”
