Your kid's sick drink is your new hangover tonic. Get Pedialyte's 'Sparkling Rush'

Pedialyte is the newest hangover elixir. Only it's not, as parents and everyone else has long-recognized the miracle properties of this healing tonic.

The company known for the prevention of dehydration in sick kids has finally gotten on board, announcing this month the release of a medical-grade fizzy drink called Sparkling Rush powder packs.

The packets come in two flavors, grape and cherry. Just mix with water and let the fizz go to work. You can find Pedialyte Sparkling Rush at Target and Meijer grocery stores and eventually at Amazon, where they are back-ordered.

FDA regulations prevent Pedialyte makers from marketing the new product as a hangover cure.

Officials at Abbott, the makers of Pedialyte, said social media posts inspired the idea for the bubbly drink, as did the exploding sparkling-water market.

"If you look at the U.S. retail landscape, you see this tremendous growth in sparkling water. We saw an opportunity to operate in that space," said Chris Calamari, vice president of pediatric nutrition at Abbott. "You get the electrolytes you need with that great-tasting fizz. It's a really exciting product."
